Michelle Webb #2 .... I Have A Thing For Old Doors

"I have a thing about old doors"!

{One of my favourite subjects is history, and I have a thing about big old doors, I feel like I just want to touch them.  I want put my hand on the door to open it in the very same place someone else would’ve done 400 years ago}.

So when I saw the PaperArtsy stamp of the "big old door", I just had to put it in my journal.

I started off by painting my background with Hey Pesto, Guacamole, Hyde Park, Toad Hall and Holly  Fresco Finish Acrylic Paints. I also used some Zesty Zing and Honey Dew for some highlights. I concentrated my brush strokes in vertical and horizontal strokes only.

I used Olive Green Archival Ink on a "number stamp" (Mini 19) around the page, just bending it in my hands, and not using an acrylic block.  You get a more of a random stamping effect this way. Eventually when the ink dries it will not look as dark.

I stamped the "Door Stamp" Urban Snapshots – (Arched Apertures 2) onto Crackly Tissue Paper. This way I could colour the door on the back and stick it into my journal.

I painted the back of the tissue paper with Smoked Paprika around the outside and Chocolate Pudding for the door. I dried off the paint gently so as not to burn the tissue.

Then painted over the dry paint with Snowflake, this helps the colour to stand out against the dark background.

The colour is there but is looking a bit pale. It needed something to make it stand out more.

I painted a Satin Glaze over the top of the stamped area to make the colour stand out even more and make the image sharper.
{Note from Leandra: as smoked Paprika is a translucent colour, you could have also added it on top of the stamped image on the front of the crackly tissue, and the black would not be compormised at all, but the colour would look much deeper and brighter. People can see my YouTube video here for more detail on how to achieve this}

I stuck the Crackly Tissue Paper into my journal using the Satin Glaze too {it makes a great adhesive}

I started to stamp around the image to add extra layers. In keeping with the medieval door, I picked an "old English text stamp" (Mini 26) to randomly stamp all over the page.

I used various shades of green and yellow Archival Inks to stamp the text.  I also used the paint splodge stamp (Mini 57) on the top right corner of the page.

I made my own words on the computer and printed them off, then distressed the edges with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.

I finished the page off with some vertical and horizontal white and black lines using an old reward card (a tip I got from Kate Crane), it looks great doesn’t it? I love those little touches.

Join me again tomorrow for some more "painty" antics.

Michelle!

Leandra Says: Oh the door looks fantastic how you have managed to blend it into the page with the stamping, and extra painted additions. Beautiful!

Gillian Says: Totes Amazeballs Michelle (in the words of Mrs PA) .... I LOVE from the colours to the images to the little finishing details, one of my very fav projects of yours so far!
