Hi friends,
It's Dominique Bennani (from dabennani) with you for another 'With 3 Things' challenge post.
For this feature on the PaperArtsy Blog 3 identical items are sent to members of the PaperArtsy Blogging team. Typically we will receive a stamp, a stencil and a couple of Fresco Paints.
We have no clue what PaperArtsy HQ is going to send, the whole idea of this challenge is to do something crafty in our personal style with these 3 items. We can incorporate other PA products into the mix if we feel it is necessary.
This time around, the PaperArtsy team invited me to participate as a guest blogger. I was very happy and honored to represent one of my favorite brands! So let's take a look at what I received from PA HQ...
I was overjoyed to be working with a stamp set from Lynne Perrella. She is an artist I love and admire. I have had the privilege to learn from her; I think this artistic meeting was one of the most influential in my life.
With my mystery package, I have made a romantic and shiny journal cover...... let's take a closer look.
As my first step, I applied randomly splashes of my two Fresco Finish acrylic paints, Rose and Sage, letting them dry between coats. I intentionally applied more pink colour in the middle of my space where the lady’s face will be stamped. This random paint application technique, as well as stamping people directly on a coloured background, I learned from Lynne Perrella so it seemed appropriate to use for this project.
I made an happy discovery while mixing Sage and the Rose ☺️: they make a magnificent skin colour!
To add more texture, I then applied randomly a thin layer of golden paste (I used Golden Hour from the Rangers' Solar paste line). I love the shine.
With such detailed stamps, it is important to have a smooth substrate so once the thin layer of paste dried, I lightly sanded the surface then applied a thin coat of clear gesso.
I stamped my focal image, the main lady from Lynne Perrella's stamp set LPC057, with a stamping tool so that I could strategically add some paint on top. Then once the acrylic had dried I could just stamp the image again for perfect definition.
I also added more stamping to build a composition.
Time for some stenciling! I use black paste (from Rangers) with two elements of PaperArtsy stencil PS107 by Scrapcosy, the word Journal and one of the isolated flowers to frame my stamped images.
I then use the same golden paste used onto the background to stencil the element « journal » again. I carefully bumped the stencil to offset it from the black version, creating a shadow effect. I love the contrast, it really makes the word shine!
To create more dimension, I applied a thin layer of the same golden paste from Rangers onto a different piece of manilla card stock, then stamped onto the golden surface a few of the same images from the composition. These elements were fussy cut to be layered on top of the same ones in my composition.
I just added a few final embellishments to finish my piece with a pop of texture, and it was ready!
I love the subtle tones and shine of this project.
I loved taking part of this challenge. I think challenges are essential to push my artistic process to evolve. I hope that you liked this sneak peek into my creativity and that you got inspired to play yourself.

Clever to use the rose to take advantage of the "cheeky" design of the young lady! The lace embellishments really attracts one's attention as well as adding texture to the piece. I will try to remember your tip about sanding to even out the piece before future stamping. Looking forward to following you, again, on pinterest.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous ideas Dominique, and so lovely to have you as a guest blogger for this feature! Thanks for your inspiration and I agree, Lynne Perrella is an influential creator who leaves a huge impression.
