Hello everyone! I was so exited for being picked to take up the 'With three things-challenge', and very happy when I unpacked the surprise package! Crunchy Waxed Craft Paper, Infusions-Just Walnut and the wonderful Hot Picks stamp set HP2401! My first thought was: This three items belong together, and I knew immediately what to make. Besides very bright colours I also love make things very old and vintage!
And this is the result: a small vintage junk journal. The booklet contains lots of pages, some fabric too, and has a closure made of silk strips. At the front I added a frame with the wonderful bird stamp and the text ,Echos of the Past'.
First I did a little search through my studio: I collected lots of old bookpapers, maps, tissue paper, fabric, lace, ribbon, mesh and silk. Then I spent a whole morning playing and experimenting with the Infusions-Just Walnut, water and all this paper and fabric stuff, so much fun!
I dripped, sprayed, dipped and swiped till everything, including me, looked like this. Such a beautiful aged and antique look, as if you go back in time a hundred years! That's what Just Walnut Infusions does!
Now it was time to experiment and play with the Crunchy Waxed Paper. I used it before but never tried to paint it. First I made paper balls and rumpled the wax paper to create nice wrinkles. I tried different paints, gesso, glitter glue and Mattints, so fun to discover what happened! I just spread out a thin layer of paint on my craft sheet and I dabbed the wrinkled wax paper into it.
I also tried to paint it with the Infusions and water... but (I should have known haha!) the waxpaper resisted the watery Infusions. So I tried to dry it with my heat tool, rubbed it in with my fingers here and there and discovered that turned out beautiful! The wax melted and the colour turned out great. Surprising!
The results... Top row from left to right: Fresco paint-Captain Peacock, Gesso and Mattints.
Bottom row from left to right: Glitter glue, Infusions-Just Walnut and Fresco Paint-Gold.
To cover the journal I chose the Infusions and the golden paint.
I used a piece of a Sizzix die (Eileen Hull, Wrapped Journal) and covered the front and back with the wax paper and the inside with the Walnut bookpapers before I cut. I also tore and cut pages out of the old papers and stamped the different texts from the Hot Picks 2401 stamp set on the pages and the inside of the cover with StazOn inks-Spiced Chai and Ganache. Oh that looked sooo good!!!
For the book front I stamped the beautiful birds and texts onto a scrap of the coloured paper and glued it in a metal frame and glued the frame onto the book. Of course I didn't forget our theme ,Glazed', so I covered the sign with Glossy Accents.
I inserted the pages using gold elastic and added some lace and pieces of silk ribbon to close the book.
Ready! The end result of the front.
The future owner can further decorate the junk journal herself, I made a start!
A spread of an old book page and PaperArtsy Tissue paper (PT01). I love the old look so very much, very happy with the result of this challenge! It was an adventure to create this! The three things are a perfect match! Can't wait to see what the other two girls make!
Hope you liked it, see you next time!
