2020 #16 Time For Tea with Scrapcosy Stamps {by Claire Snowdon}

 2020 Topic 16: Hinged

It's always amazing what a good amount of imagination and a bunch of PaperArtsy products can do to transform a humble leftover. Claire's clever up-cycled piece ends up becoming a beautiful and elegant gift that I bet her friend was utterly thrilled with.

Hi everyone, it's Claire Snowdon with you today, and I'd like to share with you an up-cycled project where I turned some packaging into a little tea gift box.

I think at this time with everything going on in the world little handmade gifts and gestures of kindness can really go a long way. So this is a little gift for my friend who I know loves herbal teas...

I got some free samples in the post which came in this lovely cardboard box which I kept for a future craft project!  I thought this box would be the perfect size for my little gift....the first thing I did was to open it out so it lay flat so I could work on it more easily.

I gave the box a couple of coats of Paperartsy Fresco Finish paint in Eggshell.  Then as the box was already a little creased I decided to take a different route with it and decided to turn it into a more distressed project and turned to the Paperartsy Crackle Glaze...therefore I gave the whole box a light coat of Fresco Finish Gumboots.

I then scraped on a thin coat of the Crackle Glaze and went over the top with the Fresco Finish Eggshell again - I was really pleased with the crackle effect I got.  I love the shabby, distressed look I managed to achieve using these two colours together.

Next,to decorate the box I stamped some images from ESC04 and ESC15 onto tissue paper and painted in some hints of colour using Fresco Finish Cerise and Aqua Duck Egg.

I stuck the tissue paper images to the box using multi medium then added some stenciling to the inside using Fresco Finish Chocolate Pudding and Scrapcosy stencil PS105.

I reassembled the box; the design is very clever as it all slots back together without any need for glue.

I took some metal corners and coloured them using Treasure Gold in Green Olive, then added them to the box using Glossy Accents.

Finally I added some quotes from a collection by 7 dots studio and a little more TG in Green Olive to the edges.....then of course I added my selection of tea bags :)

I really hope you enjoyed my little up-cycled gift idea - re-purposing any packaging is always fun, sometimes it can be a challenge but in a good way!!  I hope you'll take some time to join in with the hinged theme over the next couple of weeks too.

Thanks,
Claire x
