Hi everyone, it's Anneke with you today sharing a set of handmade art journals.
On the background of the covers I did a gel printing technique using a small gel printing plate. For the gel prints as well as for the decoration of the covers I worked with stamps and stencils from the brand new JoFY collection. I used a few stencils from the previous JoFY release as well. I had a great time mixing and matching Jo's beautiful stamps and stencils to create some flower fields.
When closed the art journals measure 21 x 14 cm. For the covers I've
cut panels (21 x 29 cm) out of 300grs watercolor paper. To create the
spine I made 2 folds in the middle, at 1 cm from each other.
I
started by covering the background with gel prints. I applied paint on a
small gel printing plate using a brayer. I stamped into the paint with
small stamps from the JOFY 81 & JOFY 82 stamp sets.
I attached the gel printing plate to an acrylic block and used it as a stamp.
I
made multiple prints to cover the entire background of all 3 covers. I
also used the PS147 as well as the PS138 & PS139 stencils to make
patterns into the paint before printing.
I've chosen to work with soft colors: Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics Koala, Eggshell, Seaglass, Hint of Mint, Sage, Vintage Lace and Blush. I softened the edges of the prints by adding a touch of Snowflake paint.
Next I started decorating the front covers of the journals with stamps, stencils and paint.
I used brighter colors for this job: Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics Granny Smith, Coral, Pixie Dust, Rose, Blood Orange and Snowflake.
I did the black stamping with Archival Ink Jet Black. I
positioned the flower stamp as well as the art journal cover in my
MISTI and left everything in place after stamping the flower. I painted
the flower and restamped it afterwards to get back all the details of
the print.
To add the greenery I used parts of the PS149 stencil, love that stencil!
To create the orange flowers I first applied Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics Coral through a flower of the PS148 stencil. I stamped on top using the matching flower stamp from the JOFY 81 stamp set.
Love how all the different layers turned out on this cover.
The
orange flowers were done with the PS138 stencil. I did the centre of
the flowers using a small part of one of the stamps from the JOFY 81
set. Getting the most out of a stamp set is what I aim for.
I
folded 5 sheets of mixed media paper in half, nested the pages into
each other to make a signature. I made a similar signature for each art
journal.
I
attached the signatures to the covers using a 3-hole pamphlet stitch. I
sewed with red, orange and pink wax cord and I decorated the threads
with matching beads.
Now I have 3 new art journals in my stash, ready to fill with my art.
I
tried to use a lot of stamps and stencils on this project but I could
easily have made 3 more covers using the same stamps and stencils. There
are so many beautiful stamps in the sets, endless combinations to make!
Thanks for joining me today, I hope you have a creative week.
