She has yet another Grunge paste technique to share...in fact, I think she might be a little bit addicted, but I also think when she remembered how a sanding block can work wonders with the stuff on her last post, she took it to the page on this one! Hi everyone, it's Corrie with you today, and I'd like to share an art journal spread with you. 

I wanted to try a new technique (new for me) but the first attempt went totally wrong and ended up in the bin. I wanted to stamp into Grunge paste but it is a little sticky and in the end I found out that stamping with a very wet stamp worked well ! So here's my project:

I wanted to achieve a shabby look to my art journal spread and I think at least that part worked out well. Here's how I made it:

I applied {Grunge Paste} to the pages in three different places and then stamped into it with, as a mentioned earlier, a stamp that I dipped into water first. This way it didn't stick. I used a  tile stamp from the set {EEG26} by Emma Godfrey.

Tip from Leandra: I love that Corrie figured out the solution to stamping in Grunge Paste, but some additional info may be helpful. 1. The thinner the layer of GP, the sharper the detail will be, and yes, 2. Spritz your stamp with water to act as a release agent for the rubber from the GP, this also makes clean up faster! 

Oh, and one more tip: 3. You can tint your GP with just ONE drop of paint, so if you want less contrast when sanding back, or perhaps you want an orange GP behind blue paint..., then tinting your GP will allow you to sand back to the tinted colour...exploring this is super fun!

Next I painted the pages using Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics in the colours {Lemon Meringue}, {Hey Pesto} and {Turquoise}. After it was dry I used a piece of sandpaper and rubbed it over the Grunge Paste to reveal the stamped pattern.

To knock back the colour and to reveal the tiled pattern even more I brayered over with Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic in the colour {Snowflake}. I love this effect, it makes it look deliciously shabby !

The next step was to extend the tiled pattern; this time using the same stamp with Distress Oxide Inks. I used colours that were close to the colours in the background ie. {Peeled Paint}, {Broken China} and {Fossilized Amber}. I also used a stamp from set {EEG25} also by Emma Godfrey to add a bit of a frame around the pages. I also like the contrast of the black ink with the background.

I was happy with the background and then stamped the door from set {EEG25} and coloured it with watercolour markers. I only used part of the image and initially also cut off the tiles on the sides but I decided to add them back because it looked better. I decided to also use the road signs so I stamped and coloured them and cut them out. I adhered everything to my pages and added some washi tape to ground the door. Lastly I added the sentiment.

I think it is a good idea to try new techniques and materials occasionally to keep things interesting. I wonder if I am the only one that thinks that or do you do the same. I would love to see you try a new technique or a material you haven't used before. It is very satisfying when it works out! I certainly enjoyed stamping into the Grunge Paste even if it did go wrong the first time.
