Hi everyone, it's Keren here with you today, and I'd like to share with you some simple techniques with stamping on fabric and using the stamping platforms to create a really high quality finish.

I adore sewing but often stamping on fabric is bit hit and miss. Being able to repeatedly stamp is just perfect!

I loved trying out different techniques- particularly using an aperture to stamp through, making a new shape, multi coloured stamping and lining up stamps to create fuller areas of image

This is a great technique for creating a different look with your stamps. I decided to use the Seth Apter set for the pattern using Seth Apter 02

You can see how imperfect the stamping is. I've used some Catherine Pooler inks. These are dye based so therefore not permanent. Adding some fabric medium would help set the inks a little. 

This creates a fab effect that stretches your images. Next up, using it as a positioner to line up images. Using pieces of card butted up to the edges so it's easy to position the next placement and by stamping on that, you can see whether the alignment is good before stamping on the fabric. I used Archival Ink but I often use Stazon on fabric too.

To add some detailing to the bag, I wanted to layer the fabric. The mercerised cotton is thin enough to see through but by adding some slashes into the fabric, you could see through. By pressing the edges open, it shows through the stamped fabric underneath.

I loved adding some butterflies by stamping on interfaced fabric. Interfacing (for the non-sewers) means the fabric won't fray and is easy to cut out. All that was needed was to add some wadding and sew around, quilting sample areas.

The sentiment and butterflies were from the Hot Picks set HP1506

Then sew on the butterflies and sew up the bag. 

I think if I did this again, I'd try using ink refills mixed with a fabric medium so that the bag would stand up to trips in the rain and an occasional wash. It's too small to be a proper bag, so maybe I'll get away with it. It was really worthwhile trying out some of the different benefits of a stamping platform; multi colour stamping is one of the main ones, and getting this precise stamped image is nigh on impossible. If you're looking for a grungy or distressed look, then it wouldn't matter, but this is a clean looking style, so as near to perfection as possible was important.
