2018 #17 Colour - A Box of Eggs: 'Find some light' with ECF {by Corrie Herriman}

2018 Topic 17: A Box of Eggs (Colour Topic)

Corrie takes us journalling with shades of eggshells in her mind! The background has plenty of coordinating colours and stamps, and the pop of soft yellow gives the whole arrangement a heart focus. perfect! ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, it's Corrie (www.MadeByCHook.blogspot.nl) here with you today, and I'd like to share an art journal spread with you.
When I started to research the colours of different bird's eggs for the topic “Box of eggs”, I was amazed at the variety ! From cream to brown, from 'duck egg' blue to turquoise, pink, yellow, green, speckled, plain, need I go on ! Courtney Franich's new paints are a great match for this theme, so I used those and also her fabulous stamps! This lady is seriously talented !

I got off to a flying start with this spread but soon ran into problems and got stuck... In the end it all came together but I did struggle a little ! Sometimes the things you have in your head simply won't work in practice and you have to adjust ! And that is what I did.

I had great fun in painting these pages with Fresco Finish Chalk acrylics {Eggshell}, {Koala} and {Seaglass}.

I started off with a brush but soon put it away and used my fingers. I find that the the areas between the colours look much more interesting when you blend with your fingers. More organic if you like.

After the paint had dried, I used Courtney's fabulous stamps {ECF01} and {ECF04} and used them  randomly over  the background.

I used  Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic {Pine Grove} and ink Distress Ink {Pumice stone} and Distress Oxides - {Broken China} and {Antique Linen} to stamp.

I still thought it needed something more so I added some stencilling using PaperArtsy stencil {PS023} by Clare Lloyd.

I decided on using some more of the famous Paperdolls. I have hundreds after all ! lol. I stamped Courtney's heart stamp from set {ECF01} and added the word peace from one of the other stamps. I then tucked it under her arm. The sentiment was made up by me, from the same stamp.

A detail photo of the sentiment. I stamped it in Distress Oxide ink {Antique Linen} and emphasised the letters slightly with a Copic marker.

I enjoyed making this, art journaling is my favourite after all, and I particularly like the heart under her arm.

I would love to see more art journaling done, why not have a go yourself. There are no rules. I think of my journals as pretty pictures in a book, a book you can put away and look at from time to time and if you are not into journaling ie. the writing part of it, then don't ! I don't like writing in my journals. I just want to make pretty, mostly colourful pictures. I particularly like the colours in these pages, although they are colours that I normally wouldn't put together. It is good to be pushed out of your comfort zone every now and then ! But the most important thing is to enjoy what you are doing !

Thank you so much for stopping by my post today ! I would love it if you visited me at my other locations too !

  3. Hi Corrie - what an inspiring project!

I, too am interested in the different colours and sizes of bird-eggs. (I'm not so keen on eating eggs though - I can't stand runny-yolks and if the white is under-cooked - well - that's a double EW!!)

I love your colour scheme and the way you've used your fingers to spread the paint a la Tim Holtz's ~ perhaps?) Fab use of the stencils and stamps, especially how you tucked the 'PEACE' heart under the older girl's arm. How you took three words from the same stamp to create your own 'title' was an inspired decision. LOVE it! <3

    P.s.
I think you've inspired me to give this months challenge a go - here goes.... Cx

  4. Lovely soft colours - the glow of the warm yellow against the smoky grey clouds in the background is wonderful, and I love the heart tucked under her arm.
