2018 #14: Baked Texture Fall Journal Pages with I&D {by Autumn Clark}

2018 Topic 13: Baked Texture

I adore the colours that Autumn has used in this piece. The layers are stunning and the Baked Texture accents are superb. Take a look. ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, it's Autumn Clark with you today, and I'd like to share the latest pages in my handmade art journal.  I wanted a place to experiment with some new to me stamping techniques and made this album to showcase those results.  I'll share the links to the other pages, all featuring various PaperArtsy stamps centered around the theme "passages" on my blog.

Today's pages are the result of experimenting with Seth's wonderful new Baked Texture Embossing powders in a modern colorway and a grungy, layered style.

Above all these pages represent freedom in creative play, secret thoughts and encouragement to press forward.

I've been addicted to stamping on tissue and using Fresco Chalk Acrylics  to create highlights so that my images leap off of my painted pages.  This is an amazing technique I first learned from watching the PaperArtsy YouTube channel.  I've found that blending the colors can provide so much depth and love how the tissue adheres over textured surfaces.  I used Nougat and Caramel beneath my PaperArtsy {Ink & the Dog} Collection (Gentleman Plate 1) and Eclectica³ {Seth Apter} Collection (ESA08) stamped images.

For my (chipboard) pages, I wanted a deep color to contrast with my favorite Baked Texture powder, Chunky Rust.  I blended Fresco Chalk Acrylics in Slate, Taupe, Caramel and Nougat until satisfied.  I embossed Seth's pattern stamp repeatedly and then adhered my tissue.  I blended out the edges of the tissue with Golden Sands Infusions mixed with water.  I went back over the edges of the chipboard with Seth's Ancient Amber Baked Texture powder.

For extra dimension I adhered a chipboard key over Seth's key image then layered a torn dictionary page and a sentiment sticker.  For the baubles, I mixed Golden Sands Infusions with Mod Podge and Art Stones.  I used Grunge Paste through a stencil to create the dimensional dots, then splashed the panels with black and white gesso/water.

As a final detail, and to brighten the design, I made some inky paper by mixing Golden Sands Infusions with Distress Inks and Oxides to create some rusty inky paper.  I stamped the leaves and words from PaperArtsy {Ink & the Dog} Collection (Letters Plate 4) and layered with Seth's Coffee Rings die cuts, which I embossed in Ancient Amber Baked Texture.

I encourage you to play with some of these techniques in your own journal.  What a great way to practice or learn to develop your personal style.  I feared the worst when I painted the wrong side of my tissue, but the beauty of that technique is the ability to reverse images.  In the end, you'd never know if I hadn't told you, right?  Trust the process and learn to roll with the punches.

It's truly been a pleasure
Autumn
