2017 Topic 6: Resin and UTEE

Topic 6 already, and in this post Nikki kicks it off with a beautiful, bright idea with Emma's fabulous flowers. There is so much to learn about resins, and the next 2 weeks are full of inspiration! Tonight Nikki shows us how to layer into UTEE to create floating-flecks, and she creates a striking focal points in one smooth swoop! Enjoy.

Lovely to be back on the PA blog tonight where I am sharing a project for the current topic. I have combined lots of UTEE (ultra thick embossing enamel) with one of Emma Godfrey's new stamp sets (EEG22) and lots of paint!

I enjoy using UTEE in this way to create accents on my work for added dimension and impact. 

I chose to use a selection of Fresco paints - Rose, Blush and Prawn for my pink hues and Tangerine Twist for the yellows. I wasn't expecting the heat embossing to intensify the colour of both the ink and paint so much on the little squares - but it adds to the contrast!

The three different size flowers on the stamp set are brilliant for something like this - I used the large one on the base and the smaller ones on the little squares.

The splatter stamp was used to add accents in chalk paint - I can see me using this a lot! There is also some subtle stencilling in the background too with Lin Brown's stencil PS044.

The great thing about UTEE is you can add layers. Having prepared the base of my little squares with the pinks I added a few layers of UTEE. Then I added the words and little flowers (pre cut) and added more UTEE. While molten I stamped into it with the splatter stamp again 'inked' with chalk paint. I added more UTEE over this - but this wouldn't work if a defined image had been stamped as the melting moves it all around!

Stamping into UTEE can be really effective - but do take care - the molten UTEE is very hot! You do need to be quick, have your stamp ready to go so that you can stamp while you have the molten surface. Also only use good red rubber stamps - PA stamps are perfect for this. In hindsight I wish I hadn't used black ink for the lovely words - they appear a bit bold!
