Yet another designer here to share with you this week! We are spoiling you here on the blog! It's everyone's favourite guy, Seth Apter here with a surprise for you...

Hello PaperArtsy people. Seth Apter from The Altered Page here with another PA guest post. 

It is always a thrill to be here and share my work with you. The theme of doors and windows is so special to me because they represent choices and opportunity. You never know what incredible view you might see through a window or what secret may lie behind a door. 

I chose to focus on an interactive element in this piece to better be able to capture the magic that can often be found through every door or window. It also brings a fun element to any artwork when the viewer gets to touch and interact with the piece in order to see it all.

Because the focus of this piece is on the doorway/window shutters, I decided to make the background look like a crumbly, aged wall by using a combination of Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics, including Terracotta and Mahogany from my own, first set of paints 

...and Mud Splat, Smoked Paprika and Green Patina from my newest set of PaperArtsy paints.  

I used my own photograph of a shuttered window that I took in Mexico as the focal point, cut it and added a looped closure so that it could actually open and close. I love text in my work so I also added the Imagine stamp from Lin Brown's new set ELB34

and The Doorway to my Imagination quote from the HP1605EZ set.

I had the most fun trying to choose what image to place behind the shuttered window and settled on what just might be the closest to representing what my imagination just might look like - a stamp from the HP1504EZ set.

 

In the end, having a hidden element make this piece so much more interesting, compelling and just plain fun. Seeing the closures really makes you want to open it and look inside.

Hope you are inspired to look into adding an interactive element to your own work. With just a little imagination, it is easy to do and will open the door to you to many creative ideas.
