 2017 Topic 3: Infusions

Clare is a bit of a newbie to PaperArtsy infusions, but look at how easily she has created a fabulous piece ready for the wall! Just 2 colours and some Grunge Paste, and you have a bit of 'pop' to brighten up any room!

Hi everyone Clare Messenger here.

It's fantastic to be here on the PA blog tonight. I've chosen to share with you a 12x12" mixed media canvas board using these gorgeous, Eclectica stamps by Tracy Scott (ETS06, ETS07, ETS08) along with one of her super new stencils (PS052).  Also, with these fabulous new products, I have used PaperArtsy Fresco chalk paints and the magical Infusions!

The Infusions really are intriguing! Although I am new to Infusions, I have used similar products before. But, I have to say that the colours that PaperArtsy have offered us are so incredibly vibrant. I love the flow of these intensely, bright colour particles that just explode before your very eyes, creating an array of blends and effects, bringing your artwork to life.

I started off by layering on some paper and braying Antarctic and Nougat Fresco paint onto the canvas board. I stamped the images directly onto the canvas board. Stockists info here for Tracy's products)

Using Tracy's stencil and TCW sequin waste stencil,  I added some Grunge Paste

Infusions time!  A Bit Jaded and Lemoncello were my colour choices. I soon learned that less is more. I added a small amount of the infusions each time, with my grandmothers voice in my head, "You can always add but you can't take it away." I took the greatest of pleasure, gradually adding more of the colourful crystals and spritizing them with water, watching the particles disperse across the canvas really was quite satisfying!

Even though the grunge paste went on to the canvas before the Infusions, once everything was really dry,  I was able to sand back the paste to reveal the glorious, detailed texture left behind by the stencils.  This surprised me as the Infusions colours are so highly pigmented.

I added some splatters of metallic gold paint, which added a little bit of bling. I always feel that when I spatter paint it adds movement within the picture.

I was a little out of my comfort zone on this project as the outcome with the Infusions was generally unpredictable. But, it hasn't put me off in the slightest way!  I can't wait to have a play with with these eye catching powders in my journal. Blues and turquoises are my go to colours, so I may even challenge myself to play around with some different colour combinations.  After all,  there are so many colourful choices to choose from and the toughg part might be deciding which ones to use!
