2017 #1 The Adventure Begins {by Corrie Herriman}

2017 Topic 1: Pink and Orange

Tonight we  have the very talented Corrie Herriman to share a bright and cheerful journal spread with Everything Art stamps. The colour wheel often is used by our wider creative family in all kinds of interesting ways, and I love the white embossing idea Corrie shares in this piece! A nice bit of 'pop'. Enjoy! ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, Corrie of Made By Chook here. It is great to be here on the PA blog tonight and I am so glad to be part of the PaperArtsy Blogging family. This topic of 'pink and orange' is right up my street and I use this colour combination quite often. I think it can be quite a scary combo but I will try to give you some inspiration for it here tonight.

I chose to use a gelli printing technique for my background and I really like how it turned out as a background for the art journal spread that I made. I love gelli printing and have been known to spend whole days doing it ! As you can imagine I have a great big stack of them ready to be used. On this occasion I made some especially for this project.

I made two sets of gelli prints. I prefer to work on loose pages and then glue them into my journal. I chose to use the 'vertical' ones, simply because I liked them more than the 'horizontal' ones. I used a bottlecap to make the circles in the pink paint before printing and a  circle stamp from set Eclectica Everything Art (EEA01) in the orange paint. I used Fresco Chalk Acrylic Paint (Yellow Submarine), (Tango), (Sherbet) and (Bubblegum) to make my prints.

Next I added some painter's tape to the back to hold the pages together; this is easier to work with. I randomly stamped the background using Archival Inks in (Jet Black), (Tiger Lily), (Magenta Hue) and I also used white embossing powder and white Fresco Chalk Acrylic Paint (Snow Flake). I feel every project needs the addition of black and white for contrast.

I have used the Eclectica Everything Art stamps. I used...

and (EEA04)

... to stamp the background. I really love circles so that's why there are lots of them on this page. I also think using similar shapes adds to make the pages cohesive. I used the same bottle cap for the white paint circles as I used while gelli printing.

I love clusters of 'stuff' so that's what I did here. I already knew I was going to use an old photo and I used ribbons, cambric and lace to make a kind of ledge for the picture to sit on. I used a sewing machine to add it to my page because I love stitching on my projects too. I really don't use it enough !

I used this photo because I think she fits the sentiment (and do the adventure begins) perfectly and she is totally adorable. When I am in England, which is quite often as my hubby is a Brit, I love to go to antique markets and look for old family photos. This is one of those. I copied it and cut it down to use on this page. I added the word 'January' as that is what it is and also signifies a new start and the word 'courage' because that is what you need for a new start.

The sentiment from the 1st Eclectica Everything Art (EEA01) set matches the little girl perfectly I think as she is at the beginning of her life. I also am at the start of my PaperArtsy Adventure ! Did I tell you how chuffed I was to be here !!!

And here are my pages, finished and adhered into my journal. I added some doodling around the pages and around the sentiment because no page I make is complete without a little doodling. I have really enjoyed making this spread as I really love the pink and the orange together and I also love the Everything Art stamps !

I really appreciate you stopping by today ! I would love to know if you ever use colour combinations that are really 'not done' like orange and pink and what colours you use. I hope that I have given you the inspiration to have a go yourself. It is lovely to play and experiment. As I mentioned above I really do love gelli printing and encourage you to try it too, alternatively you could use a brayer and roll the paint onto the page if you don't have a gelli plate. The Fresco Paints work really well with both techniques.

Thanks again for spending the time looking and if you are interested to see more of my work do come and see me in any of these places :

It's lovely to start the year with this vibrant colour combo! And your journal turned out fantastic! Beautiful texture from the lace and I really need to dig out white embossing powders for 2017! Thanks Corrie! ~ Leandra

  14. A vibrant eye-catching colour combination and as someone who is a great admirer of Corrie's art, it is no surprise that she is comfortable with this combination.
The white embossing pops against the colours and I also love the stitched border.
That photo could not be any more adorable, the little ledge is a darling idea.
Overall there is a beautiful balance of vintage but with the fresh colours and contemporary design - fabulous.
So wonderful to see you here Corrie!
