 2016 Topic 18: Autumn Leaves

Hi everyone, Darcy here with a project for this current topic of Autumn Leaves. I love Autumn, it is by far my favourite season, the colours are stunning, and there is nothing more satisfying that going for a walk and stomping through crunchy leaves. 

There is a really old cemetery near me filled with ancient trees,flowers,pine cones, squirrels, dog walkers etc. Considering its actual purpose it is a pleasant place to walk through;that was my first stop to collect some fallen leaves. 

All the leaves I collected were various shades of golden brown, and just started to curl at the edges, so I popped them into a press overnight just to flatten them. 

Then using a scraper I swiped on a little Buff, while this was still wet I added some sprinkles of Infusions. 

Then I spritzed with water, quite a lot, as I wanted the colours to run and mix. 

Next I dried the leaf as quickly as possible. This is leaf number 1, the infusion colours here were Are You Cerise, Orange County and Emerald Isle.

Leaf number 3, this time I used Golden Sands, Blackcurrant and A Bit Jaded, this was my favourite out of the three, so I decided to work with this one.

I decided to work on a large piece of mixed media paper, and firstly I stamped the Iron railings from Urban Snapshots WI3 using Potting Soil Archival Ink, this is a nice deep rich brown.

For my background I wanted to keep it relatively simple, so I just used one colour of Infusions. A Bit Jaded. I sprinkled the powder, spritzed with water , lightly and from high up, and then dried immediately. 

I stamped the text from Urban snapshots N1 and then cut the text into strips.

The leaf was glued in place with Golden Matte Gel, and then the text attached on top. The leaf was not pressed down completely flat, I like that it has a little dimension. 

To finish off I added a border in dark brown using a Promarker and then attached the whole piece to a larger sheet of mixed media paper. 

Hope you liked that, it was fun working on real leaves, and definitely something that I would do again. Next time you are out walking why not collect some leaves and add them to your artwork.

We have an exciting new stamp designer joining the PaperArtsy family this weekend! That means we have a new release of stamps coming up too. We are not shipping all the stamps until next week, and we will have just 2 of the new sets on the stand, so watch out for those, and the big announcement showing ALL of them will be Saturday evening!

As Emma is on holiday, demoing with me this weekend I have some new kids on the block....well they are not exactly new kids! Both are long-term bloggers for us!

In the morning Keren Baker will be showing her her magic ways with infusions, Prima Confections watercolours and the new stamps! I can't wait to see what she does, Keren has an amazing clean and simple style which I wish I could emulate. She always has amazing ideas!

In the afternoon, Alison Hall, (who is probably one of the first die-hard PA followers we adopted many many many years ago!) will be demoing with gellie plates, Fresco Chalk paints, stencils and infusions. 

She came to the Seth event a couple of weeks back too, so she is also extremely competent in sharing his wonderful techniques and processes. Love her, and love what she creates with such ease!

2016 #18 Autumn Girl {by Etsuko Noguchi}

2016 Topic 18: Autumn Leaves

Hello everyone Etsuko here. I'm delighted to be joining you tonight sharing a triptych that I have created for the fabulous PaperArtsy blog in the theme of Autumn Leaves.

I love to move into the  Autumn season of calm after the glamorous Summer. I tried to capture the atmosphere of Autumn. 

I started painting Golden white gesso onto the wooden icon triptych when it had dried I then used sanding blocks.

I selected lots of Autumnal shades of  Fresco Acrylic Finish.

First of all I made the two masterboards for the background by Fresco Acrylic Finish and smoothy white stamping card.

The center masterboard--I glued  pieces of book papers randomly on top of the white paper then I painted by China, Guacamole, Mermaid and Little Black Dress, also I stamped ECL09, EEV05 and Seth Apter stamps circle by Blue Glass, Tango and Vanilla.

The side masterboard--(1) I first painted with Brown Shed when it dried I painted with Nougat . I made scratches using Catalyst C-62 whilst the  Nougat was still wet.

(2) I glued on some book papers and painted with Guacamole, using a stencil I added  Blue Glass then washed with  Snowflake with water onto the 1.

(3) I stamped  leaves which I painted with Tango and Pumpkin Soup onto a book paper.

(4) I fussy cut the leaves and glued  with gel medium onto the 2.

I glued all the background papers into place. 

Next I used Clare's ECL09. I was very happy when I had painted her. She is very pretty, I am not good at drawing someone's faces but this stamp is very good!! 

I made her dress using Clare's ECL09 flower stamp and Coral and Snowflake.

Also I made the butterfly using same Clare's ECL09 using  Gold and black embossing powder.

I glued every piece onto the triptych.

Finally I made the door. I attached some pieces of paper with gel medium.

 I then used Sara's stencil PS027 with Grunge Paste and I painted with Pumpkin Soup. I used TH stencil Gothic and French Roast Fresco. When it dried I added a white paint-wash and I stamped Sara's ESN20 quotes and Clare's ECL09 flower with Archival Potting Soil. Also I made the butterfly for the embellishment-- I used White Fire but the photo seems off white. I  completed the project with the some embellishments.

I really enjoyed this project, I love the Frescos they have the so many possibilities and beautiful colours that make me happy. I hope you liked today's project.

Hi everyone it's Sue here with a project for the current theme Autumn Leaves. 

Tonight I'd like to share with you some more dabbling with the Sculpture Medium and painting it with Frescos. 

This theme is right up my alley as the colours of Autumn are my favourites to work with, and the Fresco range blend so beautifully. As Summer cools off and Autumn arrives it's time to take a breath before the onslaught of the festive season. I once heard it said that the earth gives a huge sigh of relief when Summer is over and Autumn arrives, so the quote I've used sort of reflects this. 

Step One: I found this frame lurking in the bottom of a box so decided to give it some attention, I discarded the glass and am now left with the 2 main parts. 

Step Two: I painted both pieces with Snowflake then created a MasterBoard from tissue paper and stamps from VID09. This was torn up and glued over the frame.

Step Three: My idea was to create Autumn leaves around the edge of the frame and I wanted them to hold their shape but also look moulded to the frame. So, I die cut several leaves using the PaperArtsy Oak Leaf dies from Egyptian cotton then soaked them in Prima Sculpture Medium. While the medium was still wet I sprinkled on Mini Art Stones. The medium needs to be left, at least, overnight for the fabric to set hard and I wanted more shape so I scrunched up some thin wire and pushed it underneath the leaves and left it to set.

Step Four: I then started to layer up Fresco colours, reaching for all the wonderful shades that scream Autumn to me. First up is Pumpkin Soup, I made sure the leaves were thoroughly coated but only gave the frame a light coat. Tango was next and I concentrated this mainly on the centre area of the leaves and then blended it out on the frame. 

Step Five: Autumn Fire and Brown Shed were next and again I concentrated on the centre of the leaves. The final colours were Claret and French Roast, this is a fabulous colour to create that burnt look, as it's translucent it allows the previous colours to still be seen. 

Step Six: I'd got some of the tissue Masterboard left so covered the back panel with it and then using the same Fresco colours layered up the colour using a baby wipe. I used Haystack on the centre area as it's opaque so knocked back the text on the tissue paper ready for the main image. 

Step Seven: I stamped the main image directly on to the board and also onto some tissue paper. I then cut out the man with the leaf and glued it over the top. 

Step Eight: I rubbed some Florentine Treasure Gold lightly over the top of the leaves. The quote was stamped using one of those little alphabet stamp sets onto Smoothy Card, cut out and edged with Fresco paint. 

The idea of Autumn leaves can send you in so many directions but for me it was mainly about the colours. Frescos work so well together even if you cross over your colour families, like I do all the time ! Layering up the different shades really gives your project depth as well as the combination of translucent and opaque shades. 2016 #18 Autumn Plaque {by Liz Borer}

Hi there , Liz here with a project looking at the topic of Leaves and Autumn colours. At this time of year the colours of nature are glorious and vivid and I hope that I have managed to capture this in a small way in this project .

I started with an MDF plaque that I had and painted it with Little Black Dress. Then I started adding colour for the background. I dribbled blobs of colour onto the plaque and spread them using an old credit card .

I started with Haystack and Granny Smith because they are opaque and then added Smoked Paprika.I used Bora Bora next because I wanted a little contrast with the autumnal colours and then used French Roast .

The last colour was Green Olives. I went back and added some more of the colours until I was happy with the effect .

I then added to the background using stencil ELB002 . This stencil is a collection of lovely leaves and I used the vine like part to ' grow ' a vine over the base . I used Green Olives with a bit of Granny Smith mixed in it to lighten it first and then Granny Smith alone .

To add to the background I stamped the long grasses from ELB30 using a mix of Haystack and a touch of green paint .

I then took a torn piece of corrugated card to create the centre panel and tore some of the flat paper off it to create texture. I painted it black and when dry I added Crackle Medium randomly.

Once dry I painted Vanilla over the whole piece.

I stamped the leaves from ELB29 and words from ELB30 randomly and then washed Blood Orange and Smoked Paprika over the card . Finally I rubbed White Fire Treasure Gold around the edges . By using a pale colour on this panel I have created a contrast between with the background so that it stands out .

The panel can then be adhered to the base and in this picture you can see the stamped grasses . I rubbed some more Treasure Gold around the edges . I also distressed the edges of the plaque with Inky Pool to add depth to the design .

I used some patterned paper in autumnal colours and stamped the large leaves from the two stamp sets to create coloured leaves and then cut them out .

I then stamped the flowers from EEB 08 onto some yellow paper and rubbed Smoked Paprika and Blood Orange onto the paper with cut and dry foam to colour the flowers to tone in with the other colours . I cut the flowers out and cut off some of the petals from some of the flowers so that I could build them into dimensional pieces by curling the petals and sticking them together with dimensional glue .

I found some artificial berries which I painted with colours from the palette and rubbed with gold . Once all the paint was dry I adhered the leaves to the plaque ( using dimensional glue so that some of them were lifted off the surface) . I also added the flowers and berries .

I found the quote about Autumn and printed it onto printable canvas . I then washed colours from the palette onto the canvas and rubbed some gold around the edges before mounting it onto black card . This was then adhered to the plaque .

I don't often use these colours although I love them and I enjoyed working with Lin Browns lovely new stamps . I hope that you like this and it has given you some ideas . I'll be back soon with more ideas . Happy Autumn!
