2016 #12 Hayfever Free Pots {by Gabrielle Price}

 2016 Topic 12: Fabric

Hi everyone - Gabrielle from Crafty Thoughts here.

Tonight I'd like to share with you this evening with a post about a hayfever free plant pot trug.

Hayfever season has really started in my house and my poor son is really suffering so this was a way to have flowers, and my son, in the house! I need to be honest from the beginning, I have really limited sewing abilities - in fact my ideas far outweigh my ambition! However I have a rather fabulous sister who helped me turn my ideas into a reality. This was easy to make once you have done a little maths!

Step One: Draw the outline of the trug on some calico. You need to measure the width of three mini flower pots for the length and then measure up to the lip of the flower pot for the sides.

Step Two: Turn the fabric over and start stamping. I used Emma's fabulous stamps EEG08. The ruler is there so I know where the bottom line is.

Step Three: Finish all of the stamping. The stalks were from EEG16 and the journalling spots were the bottom half of the one from EEG02.

Step Four: Paint the flowers and journalling spots. I used watercolour pencils.

Step Five: Sew the trug together. My sister advised me to use cut cardboard in the sides to strengthen them - that's a good tip!

Step Six: For the flowers in the flower pots, stamp more flowers on calico and paint. Then adhere them to some strong plastic or cardboard and then cut them out. Cut lengths of wire and glue them into place. I used Glossy Accents as this works very well for me. Then, when dry, carefully curl the wire around a paintbrush handle and poke through circles of brown felt.

I love the flowers in their pots. I added some little seed beads to the brown felt which really lifts the whole project.

I am really pleased with how this turned out. I love the little pots overflowing with flowers. They look really effective with their curly stalks.
Thank you, as always for popping by, Gabrielle (@freyatom)

Love this fun and quirky project Gabrielle ... the dimensional flowers look fab in their little pots. Thanks for sharing your creativity with us all. ~Gillian
