2016 Topic 10: Doodles
Hi everyone Debs here. Tonight
I'd like to share a page from my 8x8 journal of some doodles. I chose
to do this because I love to doodle especially when on the phone. I get
the chance to doodle almost all day at the moment as I'm on phone duty
and my 'for notes' book is full of flowers or faces. However, for
tonight's page I'm using pattens.
I thought
it would be great to use stamps, and then add my doodles to them;
changing the original to make it look different and doodling is just
great for this kind of art. Of course using a journal is an obvious
choice especially when you just can't leave them alone.
Step One: The base layer was created using Fresco Acrylic Paint in
Vintage Lace, Sherbert, Chalk, and Zucchini. I scraped these on using
Silicon Brushes from Prima, in alternating layers; I wasn't careful
here as I wanted a random affect.
Step Two: Using stamps from Squiggly Ink Swirls and Curls 2 and Ding & Dong 5 I
created my focal point. I used the smaller elements around the page as
well as adding them to the bird, to increase his plumage. Unusually for
me, I played with the stamps for a while to get a feel for how they
looked together, and even planned my composition before committing it to
the journal page. I do usually jump straight in but felt it could all
go horribly wrong if I followed my usual path, so trusting my instincts I
planned it out. This in its self was a challenge, but one I enjoyed.
Step Three: Now I had my skeleton page it could be fleshed out with a little more stamping, using Squiggly Ink Flora & Fauna 3 then my own doodles. Once I had heat set all the additions I started to add colour using Distress Inks from Ranger. I blended all the colours with my finger leaving some of the background showing in places as I like how it looked with the crayons.
Finally
I tidied up the page where necessary and went over some of the black
lines that had faded by the crayons. Using a black Stabilo All pencil I
added some doodles where needed, and with colour pencils added some
shading and high lights. Below is a close up of some of the details.
Oh
what fun this was! I could have carried on and on adding bits here and
there. Of course you don't have to use a journal, it would work as well
on a tag, ATC, or card. I think the wonder of doodles is that it's
endless, you are in control, and anyone can do it. If you can make a
mark, you can doodle, whether just adding simple dots or complicated
pattens, it's all yours. Or you can start the way I did, with stamping
first and use that as your platform from which to dive into, the
wonderful world of doodles.
I hope you get time to play along, take care as always hugs Debs xx
Aren't Doodles just oodles of fun Debs ... Squiggly Ink designs are just perfect for some additional doodling don't you think! Great vibrant project, thanks for sharing with us again tonight. ~Gillian
