2016 #8: White
Space
Hi everyone Justine here, joining you this evening with a post about white space. I chose this technique to show off because I love clean and simple cards. I love how effective white space can be against colour. Today I have three cards to show off how effective white space can be and I have a video tutorial on my YoutTube channel for these cards if you are curious about watching the process.
Step One: I cut a white panel that
measures 4 ¼ by 5 1/2. I stamped the “branch” stamp from the Urban Snapshots – Nature Plate 2 several times in three
shades of green to create dimension. I added the butterfly from the Urban Snapshots – Nature Plate 2 three times in a random
pattern in black ink.

Step Two: I stamped the sentiment
from the Urban
Snapshots – Nature Plate 1 in the white space to the
left and mounted the panel onto a top folding card base.
Step One: I cut a white panel that
measures 4 ¼ by 5 ½ and masked off an area using masking tape. Using three
shades of purple and a blending tool, I blended an ombré background between the
masking tape.
Step Two: I stamped the angel from
the Urban Snapshots – Nature Plate 2 inside the masking off area in black. I
stamped the sentiment in the white space to the right and mounted the panel
onto a top folding card base.
Using a zipper was inspired by an Art Journal I saw by Vicky Papaioannou.
Step One: I cut a white panel that
measures 4 ¼ by 5 ½ and a card base that measures 11 x 4 ¼ (scored at 5 ½ to
make a top folding card). On the card base, I masked off 1/4 inches around the
base to make a white border. I blended three shades of green to create a
colourful background and stamped the tree from the Urban Snapshots – Nature Plate 1 in black ink towards the
top left corner. I removed the masking tape
Step Two: I stamped the sentiment from the Urban Snapshots – Nature Plate 1 on the bottom right hand
corner of the white panel. I cut a “V shape” into the top of the card panel and
glued a zipper to the back of it. I trimmed the edges of the zipper. I attached the panel to the base with 3D foam
tape (since the zipper was bulky I had to use thick foam tape.
The one thing I would do differently on the “zipper card” is to wait until the glue is completely dry before moving onto cutting the zipper down – that way the fuzzies don’t stick to the card. It was a lot of fun using a zipper on my card and I wonder what other things we can reuse around the house for our projects. What kinds of things have you used? Let me know in the comment below!
