2015 Theme 3: Paint
Hi everyone Anneke here, joining you this evening with a post about Art Journalling. I hope to inspire those who sometimes struggle with 'the fear of the blank pages'. Aren't we all familiar with that feeling, from time to time....
I have a fun and easy background technique for you this evening.
I have a fun and easy background technique for you this evening.
I love adding some structure to my Art Journal pages. Here I put pieces of masking tape and joint tape to the bottom of the pages. I sealed the tape with Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylics Matte Glaze to secure.
I continued adding texture with PaperArtsy Grunge Paste and a JOFY stencil (JOFY 007).
No need to have lots of colors, I made this spread with three colors from the new Lin Brown Limited Edition 3 set (Banana, Caribbean Sea and Tangerine Twist) in combination with Snowflake and a small amount of Little Black Dress.
For the green color at the bottom I mixed Banana with some Caribbean Sea. I applied the paint with a flat brush and added a white wash with Snowflake to soften the colors a bit.
I used stamps from two new beautiful stamp sheets by Darcy: EDY 11 and EDY 12.
I did the stamping on the background with Fresco Paint (Snowflake) and StazOn ink Teal Blue and Sunflower Yellow.
I added dots with a Tim Holtz Layering Stencil (Dot Fade) and Fresco Paints (Snowflake and Little Black Dress). With the white paint I worked through the stencil and I used the stencil as a stamp with the black paint.
In the meanwhile I painted some tissue paper with the new Lin Brown colors too, I'm totally in love with those colors!
I stamped the focal images with Archival Ink Jet Black on watercolor paper and colored the images with a small brush and the same paints as I used for the background.
I added sculpture flowers by Prima (Donna Downey Studios Poppies and Peonies). Put 3 tissue paper circles underneath each flower. I glued some torn strips of tissue paper and mini pompons to the bottom of the spread.
I love working in my Art Journal. It's very relaxing because it doesn't have to be as perfect compared to my other work. I like that way of experimenting. While making cards I'm not so brave when it comes to the color yellow but in my art journal I feel no fear :) And now I'm so happy with the result, I will definitely use more yellow on my cards in the future!
I hope I could inspire you to create a colourful ( yellow perhaps? ) spread in your Art Journal. I would love to see your takes!
Have fun!

Thankyou Anneke for this vibrant journal page, Lin's new colours are so happy. The Snowflake stamping in the background is a great touch, adding interest without an overpowering colour .You have shown three great uses for paint, blended background, colouring stamps and painting tissue, plus the creation of a new colour!
