I was all set to do something for Christmas when the light bulb came on and I changed my mind completely ! I'm a very messy crafter and as it's getting colder now crafting in short sleeves (which is what I normally do) is becoming less appealing. So, I thought I need some sleeve protectors and that lead to why not make them myself !
I started with some cotton fabric, which is a really fine weave, this makes it easier to stamp onto. I didn't measure the fabric just held it around my arm to get a rough idea of the size I needed.
I quickly ironed it and then used the JOFY 22 and JOFY 21 sets to stamp all over it using black Archival ink and heat set it. I didn't stamp right up to the bottom edge as I knew I'd need to have a hem.

I then painted all of the flowers, leaves and grass using watered down Tango, Yellow Submarine, Autumn Fire, Chartreuse, Hey Pesto and a little Claret on the dots on the border. It's best to have your heat gun in one hand as you paint as the fabric loves to suck up the liquid and if you dry it quickly it stops any leaks outside of your stamped image.
I lined both of them with a second piece of cotton fabric and threaded elastic through the top and bottom. So now I can wear long sleeves and not worry about what happens them !
Hope you've enjoyed tonight's project see you again soon !

ReplyDeletevery practical, they look great! I've seen Finn uses sleeve protectors, great idea for messy crafters.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful idea, Sue, and such a great design! I could really do with these but my main problem is dropping gluey things onto my lap. All my trousers have streaks of glue which won't come out!

ReplyDeleteI LOVE these sleeve protectors but I wouldn't want to get these messy either - I'd want to keep them clean! No paint or ink allowed near them!
