"Hello again, Wanda here. Today we are making ornament! I had so much fun making these that I could have gone on and on and when I have more time, I'll be making more. With all the Fresco Finish Paints available there is no end to the colors you can make your ornaments. These are light enough to hang on any tree, yet heavy enough to hang nicely. We are using fabric for a wonderful look but sewing is not necessary (although you could if you wanted to)".
I'm using stamps from JOFY27 and JOFY 28, a variety of Fresco Finish colors, and metallic glaze for sparkle.
Cut a piece of muslin fabric large enough for your stamped image. If there are wrinkles in the fabric, mist it with water and dry it with your heat tool.
Stamp the image with Jet Black Archival Ink and dry the ink with your heat tool.
Cut a piece of Phoomph large enough to stick your stamped image onto. Phoomph for fabric is a fabric bonding sheet that requires no ironing. It has adhesive on both sides with a peel off liner. The sheets are 9" x 12" and are 1mm thick. You can get it in soft or stiff, I'm using soft. It comes in 8 colors, I am using white.
Peel off one side of the phoomph, carefully lay your stamped image onto the phoomph smoothing as you go. Rub over it to be sure it's stuck everywhere.
Cut the ornament out. I skipped trying to cut around the hanger and just went across the top.
Here is a picture showing the thickness.
Now we get to paint the ornament. I mixed approximately equal amounts of Orchid and Metallic Glaze to paint with. I found also using water really helped to move the paint on the fabric. For the top I used pewter. I also painted the edges. Let this dry or use your heat tool to dry it.
After the ornament is dry, peel off the liner on the back and stick it to white felt. Cut around the ornament using pinking scissors. I cut the top area with straight scissors even with the ornament.
Here it is cut out. The hole is punched using a Crop-a-dile.
I cut a piece of smoothy cardstock and brushed the left over Orchid/Metallic Glaze onto it. I also cut a piece of seam binding and mopped up the excess Pewter paint along with some water. I was already thinking I might want to put a bow on the ornament.
Most often I am creating in small blocks of time which can work well for me. I'm walking away (because there are other things to be done) which allows time to think about what I want to do next. I decided I wanted to add a flower and pulled out a Prima one from the Sunrise/Sunset Collection. The flower was already grey but I painted it with pewter, added Orchid to the tips and then added Metallic Glaze. I dabbed the crumpled up colored ribbon lightly in the excess orchid for some pink spots and then used up the excess paint by sponging it through sequin waste onto the card putting the pewter most everywhere and keeping the Orchid near the edges. The ribbon was dried, a bow tied, and then I very lightly brush just a little Metallic Glaze for a bit of sparkle.
I added little dots of Pewter paint to the center of each star. I tied silver cording for the hanger and laid the bow and the flower onto the ornament. It really doesn't look bad in this picture but in real life I didn't like the ribbon, too dark.
So I did another piece of seam binding using Snowflake and water. Again after it was dried and tied into a bow I added just a hint of Metallic Glaze. I glued on the bow and the flower with Golden heavy gel medium.
I just had to finish a card with that started panel. The words are stamped with Jet Black and I painted merry and happy with watered down Chalk paint. I stamped the ornament on a scrap of paper and painted it with Orchid/Metallic Glaze, Slate, and Pewter. I cut the ornament out, laid it on the panel, and decided I really needed more color. I stenciled on some Turquoise through the sequin waste and added the color to the words. The ornament is shaped with my fingers and attached with a piece of foam tape just in the center and thin dry adhesive at the top and bottom. A Pitt pen was used to draw the hanger and doodle around the edges. The panel is attached to a folded white card.
For this next ornament I used Cherry Red and Metallic Glaze and the top is painted with Old Gold. With the Orchid paint (an opaque paint), I had mixed the color and Metallic Glaze in equal amounts and so I first did that with the Cherry Red. However, there was way too much metallic. Cherry Red is a transparent color and it was allowing all the metallic to shine whereas with the opaque paint you only see what's on top. With the transparent colors I had to use just a little Metallic Glaze so it wasn't overwhelming.
The flowers are from the Prima Vintage Trinkets Collection. I painted the larger flower with Chalk, wiping some off with my finger. The smaller flower is painted with Cherry Red. A brad in the center and it was glued on with heavy gel medium. There are flat backed sticky pearls on the stars. Even though the pearls have adhesive I also used a dot of heavy gel medium to be sure they would stay stuck.
For this ornament I used Turquoise/Metallic Glaze, Slate for the two stripes, and Chartreuse/Metallic Glaze. The top is Old Gold. The bow and hanger are made with a shimmery embroidery floss.
Joy!!! I stamped the orament and then stamped the word joy in the center. I painted joy with Chalk and a little water. For the ornament, I mixed Cherry Red and Chalk for a lighter red color and also added Metallic Glaze. The top is Pewter. I added dots of Chalk to the stars. The leaf is from the Prima Mechanicals Collection. I painted the metal leaf with Chalk first, then Hey Pesto over it and finally Treasure Gold Emerald. I'm sure I could have skipped the paint and just added the Treasure Gold if I had decided on that first. I glued the leaf so the hole in the embellishment lined up with the hole I had punched in the ornament. I tied on silver cording for the hanger and then put a silver brad through the hole.
I got very colorful with this last ornament. The circles are painted with Zesty Zing, Cherry Red, and Evergreen; each mixed with Metallic Glaze. The top is Zesty Zing. All the white area is a mix of Chalk and Metallic Glaze. Cherry Red was used for the extra dots. The hanger is white cording and the bow is a beaded string.
I hope you've enjoyed the ornaments!!!! These really were fun and they don't take all that terribly long to make. And as I said, with all the Fresco Finish colors you can make them in any color your heart desires!!!
