"Hello all, Penny here and welcome to my fourth and last (hopefully not for ever!)
session as a Guest Designer. This has been a new and very enjoyable experience for me - Thank
you Leandra and the team. This week the theme is "Fabric Books" and we will be
working with the lovely new Hot Picks stamp sets".
I can be a bit neat and precise in my work, but these stamps lend themselves
to a different
style, so lets get loose!
I started by cutting three 8" squares of hessian fabric and fraying the
edges a bit.
I looped a piece of thread through the centre fold of the pages, round a
kebab stick, and through the holes of a button, tying a knot to secure. This is NOT sewing!
Simple but effective. Then I decorated the pages. I started with an interesting technique learned during a City and Guilds
creative embroidery course. I painted a watery layer of Fresco Finish Paint (Stone, Antarctic
and Rose) onto a piece of paper backed fusible webbing.
It doesn't look very impressive but..... I let it completely dry, added a
light rub of Treasure
Gold and cut it into page sized pieces.
I then peeled it off the backing and covering it with baking paper to protect
the iron, I ironed it onto my book page, giving an interesting misty background. Next, I stamped an image from HP1305EZ onto tissue paper with Claret paint and after tearing the shape out roughly,
applied it to my book page using acrylic medium.
I added the Black Archival Ink text in the same way and embellished with
flowers. I used stamps HP1302EZ and HP1306EZ to complete the next two
pages,using the same basic techniques.
Do have a go! Thank you for watching, see you again tomorrow.

Leandra Says: What a wonderful project Penny to start the week. The softness/opacity of the Fresco Paints have worked a treat on the fusible webbing, such an understated yet visually pleasing project. I really love your projects when you incorporate the stamps with fabric, and the webbing truly allows the texture of the hessian to still be a feature, yet you have a perfectly stamped image, just superb!
Gillian Says: Love the non sewing technique to this fabric book. I like how the fusible webbing has taken on its on texture against the hessian background. The flower from HP1305 looks beautiful stamped in Claret.
