Welcome Back GD: Penny Nuttall Project #1 Fabric Hanging

"Hello Penny here and welcome back for my next three projects for PaperArtsy! My poor old brain is buzzing with ideas - it's hard work but fun to share.

The theme that "happened" (I never exactly plan) for this week is interior design and involves fabric but .... DONT PANIC - alternatives to sewing will be offered"!

First, I found a stick. It shouted "wall hanging". To help get a balance of shapes and sizes for the elements I divided up a 12"x16" sheet of paper and layed the pieces out in a pleasing composition.

I used these as patterns to cut pieces of linen fabric and then stencilled each piece using Fresco Finish Acrylic Paints, JOFY stencils 007 and 008 using a stencil brush. "A picture paints a thousand words" so .......

Oh yes...... I first stencilled a base of Chalk Fresco Paint before adding further layers of colour. This gave a nice 3-D look. ALWAYS dry each layer before adding the next as this keeps the colours fresh. Next gently wipe any excess paint off the BACK of the stencil between uses to avoid smudges.

I cut out backing pieces of hessian fabric, approximately 1/4" bigger all round for each section.

Now you can either sew or glue to assemble. Trap a piece of ribbon or tape between the linen and the hessian layers, making a loop at the top and leaving a tail at the bottom, and sew or glue together.

Stay with me we've nearly done! I added a some barbecue sticks with the ends dipped.

Some fabric flowers ....

Finally I added some small bulldog clips on the ribbon ends. Voila!

I hope you enjoyed this project and feel inspired to try part of it, if not it all.Join me tomorrow evening for project #2.

~Penny~

Leandra Says: Doesn't the stencil look totes amazeballs as the focal image. Loving the C&S look to tonight's project Penny. And love how the white layer of stencilling really pops the colours on top!

Gillian Says: Clean, simple and au natural feel to this project Penny. Great composition.
