Hi everyone, Marjie Kemper here with an art journal page using Lynne Perrella's fabulous hot air balloon stamp. I'm honored to be the Guest Designer here today.
Wanting to have a play with Fresco Finish paints and Crackle Glaze, I watched this tutorial video from Leandra, before trying the technique. It's a quick one with very nice results, and the video shows you exactly what to do.
I then gathered my supplies. I used stamps from Lynne Perrella Collection 08 and Hot Picks XT05EZ, Crackle Glaze, Fresco Finish paints (Baltic Blue and Mermaid), Ranger archival inks, a border stamp, pallete knife, paint brush, ink blending tools, distress ink, and shipping tags. Other supplies included collage bits, Matte Medium, Ranger's Distress Markers, a white Posca paint pen, Tim Holtz's Idea-ology gears, several stencils, and the new Sizzix Frameworks honeycomb die.

When trying a new technique, I like to make a few samples as I go, in case of mistake (or happy accidents). I painted three of the tags with Baltic Blue and then spread on the Crackle Glaze in a thin layer. Once dry, I painted a top coat of Mermaid and within just minutes my cracks were set.
I stamped the balloon image from LPC 018 with jet black Archival Ink and colored it in with Ranger's Distress Markers. I also lightly sanded around the edges and used the brown distress ink to age them.

I glued a bunch of random bits of paper to my art journal page, mostly collage bits from another project. I was really happy to remember I had a piece of balloon art (and even happier to actually find it in time for this project!) that would complement the stamped image.
Once my collage pieces were dry, I added a wash of both the Mermaid and Baltic Blue Fresco Finish paints (diluted with Matte Medium). I liked the look so much that I went ahead and did the left side of the spread too, so I've a good start on another day.
Next it was time to start playing with some stencils, adding color with the ink blending tool. That compass stencil is a new one from Ronda Palazzari. I used the innards' of the new Frameworks honeycomb die and stamped (and cut out) that border stamp a few times to make an edge long enough to cover my left side.
(I mentioned I make multiples when trying a new technique. You can see Version 1 of the stamped tag in the top left of the photo above.... that was a definite 'ooops' but I ended up being able to use the unstamped area as the perfect surface for my 'expect great things' sentiment, below.)
I love how the cracks in my tag came out in such detail, yet my stamped image is set as if it was stamped on smooth paper. I also like what the white pen adds... I always mean to use mine more often!
