"Hi there, Julie Ann here.
Thank you for returning to see the last stage in my 'Bones and Feathers'
suitcase inspired by Emily Portman's song. Last night we took a peek
inside. Here are the little birds all ready to fly out into the dawn and
fill the air with their singing"!
Just
over on the left, you can see some more card eggs ready to add. I just
snipped them in two with zig-zag cuts to create the effect of broken
shells then I touched them with some Versamark to make the edges nice
and tacky. I then sprinkled them with UTEE and, holding them with
tweezers, melted the UTEE with the heat-gun underneath. I then fixed
them to the back of the case with dimensional foam pads. Just a touch
of Florentine Treasure Gold also helped to make them gleam and gave them dimension.
Now
it was time to concentrate on decorating the lid! I am still using my
trusty Mini 99 and the lovely Urban Snapshot Nature range, which I think have gone so well with this project.
I stamped Mini 99 twice onto book paper again, painted with diluted Nougat sprayed with some Inky Pool and Blood Orange mists.
I created the feather's spine again using a cocktail stick and this
time I sandwiched the two feathers together and snipped the edges once
they were firmly stuck.
I put this to one side to add to the lid later. Then I sponged some Smoothy Heavy Weight Card with Antarctic and spray painted it with washes of Inky Pool, Blood Orange and Guacamole.
My next step was to stamp the leaves from USNT3 and the moth from USNT4 in
Inky Pool, keeping a damp cloth at the ready to cover my stamp to
prevent the Fresco from staining it. I then 'fussy cut' both the leaves
and the moth.
I
added a few Mica flakes to the moth to make her glimmer and a
sprinkling of Gold UTEE to the leaves and the moth and fixed them to the
lid of the case in one corner.
The feather and some more egg shells were placed in the other two corners.
A mini case like this could contain a little gift nesting in some tissue or perhaps a silk scarf with a pattern of birds that could be wound out.
Maybe it could contain travel tickets or a mini travel journal!
Instead of a song-themed case, you could try a 'Bon Voyage' theme and fill it with mini bottles of travel cosmetics!
Do
have a listen to Emily Portman's haunting song if you have the chance
and thank you so much for joining me on the second flight on my PaperArtsy Journey!

What an absolutely delightful completed project Julie Ann. I love all the little touches you give to your projects which all add to your story. Unfortunately I don't know the singer or song you mention. I googled Emily & found the song but couldn't find it to listen to :-(.

ReplyDeleteHi Etsuko! Thank you for your nice comment. I think this feather might be a duck's! It might belong to the Eider duck, the kind we take feathers from to fill quilts; but I'm not completely sure of this! I wonder if Leandra or Mark would know?
