Helen Chilton {Special 10th Birthday Post} ....

Hi everyone! Yet another sneaky post is added to the special  PA Birthday catalogue this month from the colourful Helen Chilton. Helen is using a fabulous shaped wooden heart, with Lynne Perrella stamps to great effect! If this inspires you, you can add it to the coming week's challenge post that will be shortly at 7pm. I wonder if any of you will be ready to link within the hour?? LOL Here's Helen:

'I'm delighted to be back sharing in the10th birthday celebrations {I can still remember their first time at Ally Pally - all these wonderful stamps hanging up!}'

Well, I love practically all of the PaperArtsy stamps and products so it was difficult to choose but in the end I plumped for Lynne Perrella, so that meant bright colourful paints and Grunge Paste. I've made a wooden heart shaped hanger, double sided.

Here are the Lynne Perrella stamp sets I've used.

And here are the paints I have used:

I've used a wooden heart and I've cut a smaller one from mount board.

I've painted them both with a couple of coats of Snowflake and then added Zesty Zing on top. Look at that colour pop!

I then stamped teacup lady in Black StazOn onto tissue paper and added text round the edges from that gorgeous tiny text stamp i use a lot on LPC014.

I tested her out on the smaller heart shape to see if she'd fit.

Flip her over and paint on the back in various colours.

And then block out in white when dry:

Glue and seal with Satin Glaze

And the small heart's ready!

Next I got the old Crackle Glaze out and skimmed it over the wooden heart, not too thick  (yes, Leandra, I was paying attention!!!)

When it was dry I used Leandra's technique to paint on the Beach Hut paint.
For big cracks use a brush loaded with paint, side to side, back and forth, never going over any of it to touch it up. For little cracks use same technique but with Cut N Dry foam.

And IT WORKED!!! I put that in capital letters as anyone who knows me knows I'm the world's worst crackler, but with the PaperArtsy stuff, well, just look at those crackles:

For the other side, stamp the arch lady in black onto tissue:

Flip and paint as before ....

And then glue to the other side of the wooden heart and add a bit of extra text to fill in any gaps.

Touch up with paint and stamp a little text with paint onto the face and neck so it's not so bare.

Then dig out your Grunge Paste and stencil a design top and bottom. I used the Crafters Workshop template Mini Paisley Swirls.

Reposition the stencil and paint the design orange, outlining in blue and highlight in white.

I must admit that when I originally coloured the design I used Treasure Gold, but it just wasn't bright enough so I scrubbed it all back with a baby wipe, re-grunge pasted it where I'd got a bit over enthusiastic and went for the paint instead. After that I painted some ribbon yellow and blue and fixed it to the top:

And highlighted the GP/orange swirls with snowflake accents

And the other side.

I didn't add any other embellies as I didn't think they needed it.

May I wish PaperArtsy a very Happy 10th Birthday and here's to the next ten!

Helen

Leandra Says:Wow those colours really pop perfectly, and I LOVE the GP-turned-Orange, and accented with the beach hut and white. It looks fantastic! So does the crackle! It's nice to see the zingy colours being used on their own to such great effect!

Gillian Says: Ultra-striking colour palette Helen, just perfect for the LP stamp collection loving the pops of orange. Thanks for joining in the birthday celebrations.

If you would like to give this technique a go yourself, then we would love for you to join this week's Challenge. You can link your creation from your blog, Pinterest, Flickr or any direct web page link to our weekly Challenge page (the 7pm blog post on a Sunday evening, London time).
