Sue Carrington #2 It's All About Time ....

For today’s project I have used one of the really cute Double Wooden Icons and I decided to use a selection of the Green Fresco Paints.

I first of all gave the icon a light sanding and then coated it with Sage. As it’s an opaque colour is covers the wood really well. 

I dried the first coat with my heat gun, then added some Holly to the centre of the panels, dried this off too and then added a thin coat of Crackle Glaze.

The Crackle Glaze was dried, very carefully, to avoid it bubbling !

I used Guacamole as the top coat over the Crackle Glaze as I wanted a lighter colour to contrast against the Holly crackles. 

I’ve used the Chicken Wire stencil to sponge some Hey Pesto over parts of the two panels.

Then I started to stamp ! I’ve used Holly again for the small text from the ESN06 and ESN05 sets and stamped the word Time from the ESN05 set with Black Archival Ink. The Fresco Finish paints give a fabulous surface to stamp onto whether you’re using ink or Fresco Finish Paints.

 I also used the script stamp from the ESN05 set using Stone but decided it didn’t show up as much as I wanted it to so stamped again using Holly, which was much better (you’ll see this in a later photo).

For the leaves I’ve painted some Grunge Paper with Holly and then used the stamp from the ELB01 set with Sage. (Ignore the colour of my stamp, I’m not very good at cleaning them!)

I cut the leaves out leaving a border around the edge and this is what you end up with !

I’ve used the same leaf stamp on the two panels, stamping with Holly but only using the leaf part of the stamp. 

I made two flowers using the flower stamp from the ELB02 set stamping on to black card using Stone and Smoked Paprika. (I forgot to take the pictures of them once I’d stamped them!) I cut the flowers out and then used the script stamp from the ESN05 set and stamped over them with Black Archival Ink.

I’d got a good idea of how I wanted this project to look but when I placed the flowers onto the panels they looked a little lost. So, I cut some flowers from Crinoline using the Tim Holtz Mini Tattered Flowers die and then used some watered down Smoked Paprika to colour the material. If you water down the paint a little, the fabric sucks up the colour beautifully !

I’ve used a couple of pearl stick pins, but I didn’t want them to look so ‘pearly’ ! At first I thought it was because they were too shiny so I coated them with Stone, but I still wasn’t happy. 

So, then I got out the Amber Green Treasure Gold and brushed it over them, much better! Treasure Gold gives such a good coverage and as it’s permanent there’s no worries about it brushing off ! 

I used some screw brads for the centre of the flowers and gave them the same treatment as the stick pins. (A bit fiddly but I thought it was worth it!)

I placed everything together before sticking down and decided I didn’t like the stamped words that I’d done earlier as they didn’t stand out enough. I’d got some bits of Grunge Paper left so I painted them with Sage and stamped the same words again with Holly onto the Grunge Paper and added some lace behind them.

I brushed the edges of the whole project with some Amber Green Treasure Gold, which I think just lifted it a little.
