2015 #6 Textured Bloom {by Kate Yetter}

2015 Theme 6: Grunge Paste

Hello everyone! Kate Yetter (http://scrapyardthe.wordpress.com) from The Scrap Yard joining you here this evening. I will be sharing a project focused around Grunge Paste. I love using texture in the backgrounds of my projects and grunge paste is one of my favorite tools to achieve the perfect background. Tonight I am sharing a step by step on a card using grunge paste as well as the fabulous new Eclectica stamps.

Step One: I gathered my supplies and a piece of 4x8 cardstock folded in half to be my card base.

Step Two: To match my color scheme, I colored my Grunge Paste by mixing a small amount of Fresco Finish Orchid Paint with Grunge Paste using a palette knife.

Step Three: To frame out my card, I cut a piece of recycled embellishment packaging slightly smaller than the card base and glued it to my background. Using a stencil and palette knife I applied the colored Grunge Paste over top.

Step Four: After allowing the Grunge Paste to dry a few minutes but not completely, I sprayed a clean, script stamp with water and lightly pressed it into the paste. Wash your stamp immediately to prevent the paste from drying on the stamp.

Step Five: Once the Grunge Paste is completely dry, I used a palette knife to apply a small amount of gesso over the background, including some of the area with Grunge Paste. Once the gesso was dry, I added some Distress Paint and sprayed it with water so it would run down the card creating a watercolor effect.

Step Six: I stamped a little in the background using Sepia colored ink. The background is now complete and ready to be embellished. I stamped the flower ELB16 onto patterned paper several times and cut out each once. Liquid Pearls was added to the flowers before layering and gluing the petals together.

I hope you are encouraged to go all out on your backgrounds, whether it is an art journal, altered item or a card. I never tire of using Grunge Paste as it creates a whole new look depending on the stencil or color paste that you use. Be creative. I think next time I would like to try using Grunge Paste for texture on my flowers. I am not much of a card maker as I prefer art journaling but I really enjoyed playing around on this card. I hope you decide to experiment a little with Grunge Paste in your backgrounds and get out of your comfort zone to create something amazing.

The textured background makes the central "bloom" images pop, love the soft/watered down colours and the added highlight of the Liquid Pearls to the flowers, another versatile use of Grunge Paste. Thanks Kate for sharing.
