2020 #10 Indian Box with EGL {by Etsuko Noguchi}

2020 Topic 10: Recycled Packaging

Intro
Etsuko is finding the packaging from her online purchases perfect for recycling. She has used lots of Gwen's recent stamps for this project and the striking colours are beautiful, particularly with the archival ink adding some sharp detail and colour on her painted backgrounds.

Hi everyone, It's Etsuko with you today, and I'd like to share with you Indian Box using wonderful Gwen's stamps.

Gwen's mixed media art looks so free and fascinating it's capture me and make me addictive. Today I used her stamps to make an Indian style collage on a used box.

First I made the 8inch x 5inch rectangular box into the 5inch x 5inch box.

I made three master boards, this board covers for entire the box. Painted Fresco Chalk Paint Turquoise (Hereafter Fresco) all over and stencilled by Beach Hut Fresco onto Smoothy Heavyweight A4 white card (Hereafter White card).

Then stamped EGL06 plus marks with Archival Leaf Green.

The blue master board was glued to the box, the inside of the box was painted with black gesso and the edges of the box were black distressed.

These are parts of the layer on the surface of the lid. The upper left yellow paper was painted Pumpkin Soup Fresco and stamped EGL06 plus marks by Archival Red Geranium and Sepia on the White card.

The top right dark paper was painted French Roast Fresco very roughly and dropped Pumpkin Soup Fresco with little water then I smudged blue water color pastel on it. When it dried I stamped the EGL03 mandala and EGL07 paisley with Cobalt Archival.

I stamped EGL06 'plus' marks with Sepia Archival as shown in the picture above. Next I made the elephant for focal point, embossed ELG07 elephant image by black powder on the Gold Fresco painted White card.

Each master boards and the elephant image were cut, distressed the edges with black and glued to the lid.

I decided to decorate these small mandala on the both side. I brayered Pumpkin Soup and Smoked Paprika Fresco on the White card and embossed EGL03 mandala with black embossing powder. Then I cut and stuck them top to the leftover master board band.

I made EGL07 beautiful fatima eye and paisleys on the back of the lid. Painted on the EGL07 images and embossed it with golden powder. The EGL03 stamp embossed with golden powder on the blue master board for trimming the back side of the lid. And cut them all.

Trimmings and these parts were glued to the back of the lid.

At the end I was thinking about what to do with the clasp lock. It need little fun. So with EGL01 and EGL07 I stamped on the solder these images. However as you can see, these images did not appear so clearly. I remembered that in the Gwen's tutorial used to decorate the mandala with gorgeous gemstones. Then I made the cabochon in the center with embossing powder as she did and stuck a few stones around it. (this is not gorgeous as Gwen's like, but little pretty)

I attached the clasp lock to the lid, I'm satisfied it.

I keep saving packages and cute bottles from Amazon and other suppliers to use them someday. But my husband and son want get rid of them early lol. These are now being used more actively as I have more time at home during this Corona pandemic.

Gwen's stamps are great to use and can drive a lot of imaginations on the focal point and background, and are addicting when noticed.
Would you like to play with Gwen's stamps?

Thank you so much for stopping by.
Take care and stay safe and happy crafting.
