2018 #4 Whimsy: Face off with ECL {by Wendy Mallas}

2018 Topic 4: Whimsy

Shades of grey are used to perfection in this post by Wendy. Just goes to show, you don't need to 'colour' a face, you can use grey tones, or shades of any other colour, to great effect and in the process this makes the feature pop off the colourful background. What a fab technique! Thanks Wendy! ~ Leandra

Hi everyone, it's Wendy with you today, and I'm really rather excited to share a whimsical card I made using a stamp set and stencil by Clare Lloyd.

This is a break from my usual style, but I thought they'd suit a few techniques that I learned from Dina Wakley.

I loved making this card. It gave me the chance to use paints in the carefree way that I've come to love.

I gessoed some PaperArtsy Smoothy card, using an old gift card to roughly apply. This gives texture and adds some interest further down the line. After doing the same with Dina Wakley paints, I used Clare's stencil (PS023) to remove some of the colour with a baby wipe.

Inktense pencil (Deep Indigo), activated with water, to give monotonal definition to this gorgeous girlie (ECL09)

I'm really happy with the contrast between the brightly painted background and the softly inked focal point.

Scrapes, blobs, smudges and the like really help to 'grunge up' a project. Never think of these as mistakes - embrace the grunge!

It's always worth adding a pop of black to showcase the colours you choose for your project.

This is a fairly easy project, suitable for all to have a go at. Why not try choosing some stamps and stencils from a different Paperartsy designer to your usual choice? I'm pretty sure I'll get lots more mileage from these stamps and stencils. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. After all, there's no such thing.

Love and peace,

Wendy x
