2015 #13 Elephant in the Room {by Hazel Agnew}

2015 Topic 13: Time

Evening folks, Hazel Agnew here, on my very first Guest Designer spot! And if the people who know me are surprised, then not as surprised as me…I never thought that I would get to this place!

For everyone else, I am a late to the party kind of girl……started in crafting after retiring from work and found altered art/ mixed media crafting when I linked up to PaperArtsy on Twitter and Facebook!

My style is very instant, how did I get to that kind of thing! Very quick, very messy and still trying to get over the make-a-masterpiece-every-time syndrome! I really need to play and experiment more!

Here is my first contribution to the fabulous world of Paperartsy challenges! the theme being Time!

This is a fantastic theme that everyone can relate to and goodness knows how I connected it to an elephant is anyone’s guess! On reflection I should have chosen a rabbit! Alice In Wonderland!

Here is what I did…

Step 1: I had this papier mache elephant, looking wistfully out of my craft room window. I painted all of it with Fresco Chalk…twice.

Step 2: Next I chose PA stamps with time related clocks and sentiments and stamped in Black Archival onto white tissue paper. Very important to blast them with heat gun to seal the ink! I used Ink and Dog: Clocks 3 and Clocks 4.

Clocks 3

Clocks 4.

Step 3: Next, I arranged and glued my images with Ranger multi medium (matte).

Step 4: I decided to add a little bling to my elephant and embossed clocks onto PaperArtsy Metal Card, cut into strips and attached to the base of the feet.

Step 5: Now I just filled in all the blanks with a dotty stencil and dabbed Archival ink in Leaf Green with a sponge.I liked the colour injection to the black and white.

Step 6: I stamped flowers using HP1004, again using Jet Black Archival ink. Cut, scrunched and glued; finishing them off with a brad.

HP1004,

Step 7: My elephant just screamed out for earrings…and the ideal kind were created by making the legendary Leandra Beads! I found the method on Youtube, demonstrated by Suze Weinberg. I added a ribbon bow! It was the first time that I had pierced anyones ears, let alone an elephant!

So, there is my first spot on here, and feeling very honoured, very excited and very humble!
Here are a couple more photos showing the flowers in place.

What did I enjoy the most?…. just everything about the creative process and sharing the experience!

I must thank all of my #PAtwit friends on Twitter for their help and encouragement, and Leandra, Darcy and the team! You do an amazing job and have educated me tremendously in expressing myself in so many ways!

I really hope you elephant is a little bit naughty and never arrives on time for anything! LOL. Hazel this is such a great project, and for you quite minimalist colour! Love the earrings too! As we have come to expect of you, a perfectly unique interpretation of the 'time' theme! Thanks for the fun narration of how you create Hazel! ~Leandra
